Nigerian professional wrestling legend, Raheed Ishola known round the professional wrestling world as Wonderful Sholly, has congratulated the Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his electoral victory, describing it as a demonstration of the people’s confidence in his leadership.
The former wrestling star, who remains one of the respected figures from Nigeria’s golden era of professional wrestling who hails from Aba Elere, Iwo Local Government Area of Iwo in Osun State where the former Oluwo of Iwo who directly preceded the current monarch, Oba Asiru Olatunbosun Tadese (Ariwajoye 1) hailed from. He ruled for 21 years, from 1992 until his passing in February 2013.
Wonderful Sholly who competed under the Nigerian Pro Wrestling Federation (NPWF) in the 80s and 90s was renowned for his agility, technique, and showmanship during the golden eras of Nigerian pro wrestling. He has his legacy continues to be celebrated today by enthusiasts of the sport. He was the first Iwo indigene who brought professional wrestling to Osun State in 1992 during the tenor of Governor Isiaka Adeleke of blessed memory, and at the second promotion in the year 2000, he won the National Welterweight Champion and title at the Oshogbo Township Stadium, Oshogbo.
has extended his goodwill message to the Governor while urging him to sustain his commitment to youth empowerment, sports development and initiatives that can improve the lives of the people of Osun State.
According to Wonderful Sholly, sports and entertainment have the power to transform the lives of young Nigerians when given the necessary attention and institutional support.
”Governor Adeleke’s victory is a victory for the people who believe in his leadership. I congratulate him and wish him greater success as he continues to serve the people of Osun State,” Sholly said.
The wrestling legend further called on the Governor to place greater emphasis on discovering and nurturing young sporting talents, noting that Nigeria possesses enormous potential across various sporting disciplines.
“Our youths are our greatest assets. When we invest in sports, we are investing in the future. I encourage Governor Adeleke to continue supporting programmes that will give young people opportunities to discover their talents and build sustainable careers,” he added.
Sholly also commended the role of sports personalities and entertainers in promoting unity, social development and positive values among Nigerian youths.
The former wrestler expressed confidence that continued collaboration between government, sporting organisations and the private sector would help create a stronger platform for the development of Nigeria’s sports industry.
