COSEYL Demands Immediate Release of Abducted Family Members of Chika Nwoba

               Chika Nwoba Chika

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has called for the immediate release of the wife and other family members of media practitioner and activist, Mr. Chika Nwoba, following allegations that they were taken away during a security operation at the family's residence in Awka, Anambra State.

In a statement made available to the press, COSEYL expressed deep concern over reports alleging that armed security operatives stormed the residence, assaulted members of Nwoba's family, and forcefully took away his wife while demanding information about his whereabouts. The group described the allegations as disturbing and urged the relevant authorities to clarify the circumstances surrounding the incident.

According to COSEYL, even where security agencies are investigating an individual, every operation must be conducted in strict compliance with the Constitution and the rule of law. The coalition maintained that innocent family members should not be subjected to intimidation, assault, or detention because of allegations against another person, emphasizing that such actions, if established, undermine public confidence in democratic institutions.

The youth organization noted that criticism of government policies and public officials is a recognized feature of democratic governance and should not be met with unlawful reprisals. It urged authorities to ensure that the rights and freedoms guaranteed under the Constitution are respected at all times.

COSEYL therefore called on the Ebonyi State Government and the relevant security agencies to facilitate the immediate release of any family member who may be unlawfully detained and to provide the public with accurate information regarding the allegations. The coalition also appealed for an independent and transparent investigation into the incident to establish the facts and ensure accountability where necessary.

The group further urged all parties to remain calm and law-abiding while allowing due process to take its course, stressing that justice, respect for human rights, and adherence to the rule of law remain essential pillars of Nigeria's democracy.

As of the time of filing this report, the allegations have not been independently verified, and there has been no official response from the Ebonyi State Government or the relevant security agencies regarding the claims.
