The Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL), the umbrella body of youth groups drawn across the six geopolitical zones has observed with deep concern the ongoing total darkness and persistent power outages affecting Kpaduma 1, Kpaduma 2, Kpaduma 3, Kobi Village, and other villages and satellite towns in Abuja. These communities, known to be strong supporters of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have been deliberately denied stable electricity supply by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).

In a statement signed by the President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, Secretary General, Comrade Junaid Abubakar, Publicity Secretary Comrade Adeyemo Adewale, and PRO Comrade Iniobong Sampson, the said this disturbing trend is reminiscent of the strategies employed in 2015 when the owners of discos, who had benefited under former President Goodluck Jonathan, actively sought to undermine his administration. The current conduct of AEDC signals a betrayal of a similar nature, targeting President Tinubu despite the large-hearted initiatives and support he has extended to Nigerians.

CONYL condemns the AEDC’s deliberate power blackout as an unjust tactic designed to create dissatisfaction and unrest among the people, aiming to turn them against President Tinubu as the 2027 elections approach.

"We urgently call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene personally and ensure that the power supply to these communities is restored without delay. Stable and continuous electricity is not a privilege—it is a constitutional right of the Nigerian people, and it must be respected".

"Should the AEDC fail to rectify this situation promptly, CONYL, standing firmly with the affected communities, will have no option but to organize lawful protests, including the peaceful occupation of streets and roads, to demand the restoration of power supply".

"Our message to AEDC and all relevant authorities is clear: the people’s rights must be upheld, and any attempt to manipulate basic utilities for political gains will be met with unified resistance", the statement read.
