COSEYL dismiss IPOB allegations against Sen. Orji Kalu

The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders (COSEYL) has dismissed recent accusations made by the spokesperson of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) against Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, describing the allegations as baseless, misleading, and an attempt to malign the reputation of the former Abia State governor.
In a statement signed by its President General, Comrade Goodluck Ibem, the apex socio-political youth group in the South East said Senator Kalu has consistently demonstrated transparency, patriotism, and courage throughout his public service career. COSEYL noted that his long-standing commitment to national unity, accountability, and peaceful coexistence cannot be questioned.
The group said the senator’s recent remarks on Channels Television’s Politics Today were made in good faith and reflected his genuine concern for the safety and development of the South East region. It condemned attempts to twist his comments, insisting they were being misrepresented by individuals motivated by fear of uncomfortable truths.
Addressing IPOB’s claims that Senator Kalu conspired with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu or security agencies to influence the detention or treatment of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, COSEYL said such allegations were “completely incorrect” and “should be disregarded.” The group stressed that Senator Kalu has no control over judicial or security decisions.
COSEYL also debunked allegations that the Bakassi Boys, during Kalu’s administration as governor, were responsible for widespread loss of lives. The group maintained that the vigilante outfit played a key role in restoring peace and security in Abia State, allowing residents to live without fear. It noted that many Abians still appreciate the relative stability recorded during that era.
On claims that the All Progressives Congress (APC) engineered the insecurity in the South East, COSEYL clarified that political parties do not control security agencies and that the region’s challenges require collective and depoliticized solutions.
The youth coalition praised Senator Kalu’s tenure as governor, describing his administration as the best in Abia State since its creation. It argued that his achievements in governance, security, and socio-economic development remain unmatched.
COSEYL urged Nigerians, especially media practitioners and political commentators, to avoid spreading misinformation capable of deepening ethnic or political divides.
The group reaffirmed its confidence in Senator Kalu’s integrity and leadership, describing him as a rare figure who places national interest above personal or sectional concerns.
