Former Abia State Governor and Chairman of the Senate Committee on South East Development Commission (SEDC), Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) remain unbeatable ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing the coming poll as “Tinubu versus Tinubu.”
Speaking with journalists at the National Assembly foyer on Tuesday, the Abia North Senator insisted that the APC enjoys overwhelming nationwide support, crediting President Tinubu’s policies for gradually stabilizing the economy and strengthening national security.
> “Has anyone declared to contest against him? The 2027 election is Tinubu versus Tinubu, just like Soludo versus Soludo,” Kalu said. “Our party is fully on ground, solidly with the people, and committed to policies that will lift the Nigerian masses.”
The former Senate Chief Whip added that the 10th National Assembly, under Senate President Godswill Akpabio, is determined to support Tinubu’s economic reforms through people-oriented legislation.
“We are focused on making laws that will help the President overcome our current challenges and ensure Nigerians can eat three times a day,” he emphasized.
Kalu Backs Trump’s Comments on Killings: “He Told the Truth”
Reacting to U.S. President Donald Trump’s statement on killings in Nigeria, Kalu said Trump was right to raise concerns, stressing that both Christians and Muslims have been victims of violence.
> “If anyone says Trump lied, then that’s false. Nigerians are being killed daily — Christians and Muslims alike. These jihadists want to destroy Nigeria and must be blacklisted without pity,” Kalu said.
The Senator disclosed that he had discussed Nigeria’s security situation with two former U.S. Presidents — one Republican and one Democrat — as well as six sitting American Senators, who all expressed readiness to help Nigeria fight terrorism.
> “Before Trump speaks, U.S. intelligence already knows where the terrorists are. You can see that the Nigerian Air Force is acting on shared intelligence to bomb terrorist hideouts — that’s how it should be,” he added.
